Obituary of Sharon Leola Yates

August 12, 1950 – October 6, 2019

On Sunday, October 6, 2019 Sharon was called home by the Lord, at Prairie Lake Hospice, Grande Prairie, Alberta

Born in Castor, Alberta on August 12, 1950, Sharon also resided in Nordegg, until moving to the nursing residence in Red Deer to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1969. After some time in Rocky Mountain House and Edmonton, Sharon moved to Grande Prairie area in 1980 where she worked at the Metropolitan store, and then Southview IGA. Sharon was also a dedicated and valued member of the Salvation Army Community Care ministry in Grande Prairie.

Sharon is survived by her children; Doug (Tina) Yates of Grande Prairie, AB, Karen Yates (Jason Paris) of Saint John NB, Trevor (Shawna) Nielsen of Edmonton, AB; eight grandchildren, Rob, Austin, Alexis, Dallyn Yates, Jordan Fitchett, Rebecca Konkel, Heather, Tyler Nielsen; two great grandchildren, Hailie Konkel-Welch, Charlie Nielsen. Sharon will also be forever remembered by Bob Yates, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends.

Sharon was predeceased by her mother, Alta Ilean McLeod (1995), father, Hugh Archibald “Scotty” McLeod (1997); brother, Hughie Dale McLeod (2014).

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church, 9525 83 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB with interment of Sharon’s ashes to follow in Castor, Alberta on August 12, 2020.
