Obituary of Michael Wright
Mike Wright passed away at his little piece of heaven, the farm in Grovedale.
He attended NAIT where he graduated as journeyman carpenter and with a diploma in drafting. He was a very successful carpenter and building project manager throughout Alberta and B.C. There are still buildings in existence that his craftsmanship has been part of in GP. He was a vintage car enthusiast, especially the 1962-64 Chevy Impala’s. He owned a variety of models from 2 door coupes, 4 door sedans, and convertibles. His dream was to always have a fully restored Impala with a 409 engine in it. He was also very passionate about racing pigeons. He started racing in his teens but took a break from it until the 80’s. His return to pigeons came back to him by catching some pigeons at a local farm yard. He helped start the pigeon racing club in GP, along with a few others. He remained active up until a few years ago. He was very proud of how he grew the loft from "scrubs" to some very sought after blood lines that are known world wide.
He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He loved the thrill of man vs beast. His favourite hunting partners was his dad, Les, and brother in-law, Garry. Not very often would he ever return home without an animal. November 11th was always "his" day to go out to hunt,in any type of weather(rain, snow, sunshine). He truly loved his pets, especially the dogs he raised over the years. He had numerous different breeds, but the German Shepard was his favourite. To him his dogs were his best friend. Everywhere he travelled, the dogs were usually with him.
Mike is survived by his wife Tina Wright, son Richard (Trina) Wright, step children he raised as his own David (Priscilla) Brown, Robert Brown, Dawn (Sheldon) Evaskevich, Christopher Poore, John (Stephanie) Bryant and Scott Poore, siblings Patricia (Garry) Roessler, James Wright, Kathleen (Barry) Mykytuk and Paul Wright, grandchildren Madison Wright, Kennedy Wright, Brooklyn Wright, Nathan Brown, Steven Evaskevich, Torin Evaskevich and Adam Evaskavich and Ezra Bryant, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Leslie Charles Wright and Marguerite (Webb) Wright.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday December 28th, 2019 at Bear Creek Funeral Home (11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie) at 2pm.
