Obituary of Fred Zasadny

April 19, 1939 – December 8, 2016 Fred Zasadny passed away at the QEII Hospital on December 8, 2016 at the age of 77. He was born on April 19, 1939 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He moved to Spirit River in the early 1960’s to play hockey. After a few years he settled in Grande Prairie, where he continued to live for 51 years. Fred is survived by his wife, Norma; his two sons, Guyle of Grande Prairie and Keith (Jami) of Fort McMurray; his sister Evelyn (Frank) Wince of Lethbridge; his two brothers, John (Leyda) of Strathmore and Tom (Joyce) of Grande Prairie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Iko and Mary; two brothers Joe and Alex; and three sisters, Mary Jones, Ruth Richardson, and Margaret Murray. Fred worked several jobs connected to the lumber trade and construction. He was self-employed as a contractor with Telus. After retiring he worked many summers at the Bear Creek Golf Course keeping the fairways and the greens trimmed. As a youngster, Fred had a good role model and developed an interest in building construction. Fred was also an avid sportsman and was involved in semi pro hockey as a young man. He was busy with minor, seniors, and old-timer’s hockey as well. Fred loved participating in fastball, golf, camping, and fishing. Fred had a personality and character that attracted a whole array of people and he undoubtedly left his mark on many. A Celebration of Life will not be held at this time, but later in the summer of 2017. Fred’s family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Santodomingo Garzon and the staff on 5N at the QE11 for their care and kindness over the past four months.
