Obituary of James (Jim) Redmond Kaip

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jim at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Grande Prairie following the complications of pneumonia and a long struggle with dementia. Jim leaves his devoted wife of 55 years Patricia (Miller), his sons Tom, Greg, Kelly (Heather) and Keith (Chris). Five grandchildren, Meagan, Josie, Sydney, Jacob, and Natasha and one great grandchild Scarlett. He is also survived by brothers Bill (Lila), Dick (Gwen), sisters, Lorraine (George) and Dolly, sisters-in-laws Margaret Fischer, Jean Barber and brother-in-law Jim (Deana) Miller. Fondly remembered by daughters-in-law Patti and Karen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who enjoyed their experiences with him. Jim is predeceased by his parents Joe and Francis Kaip and sister Florence Fedyk. Jim was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he met and married Pat Miller. They began raising a family in Calgary, AB where they resided for 21 years. They moved to Mackenzie, B.C. for three years and finally, settled in Grande Prairie in 1991. Jim had a deep and sustaining love of the outdoors that has continued on with his children. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren whether that was building a birdhouse or hunting for bugs. Jim always enjoyed a connection with pets, camping and walking. Jim began his career as an Industrial Lab Technician for Core Lab. He then progressed into a second-class power engineer and Millwright, finishing his career at Risley Steel in Grande Prairie. Jim was an exceptional handy man who did all his own repairs and was very self-reliant. Jim’s commitment to his family and his easy-going nature were his outstanding features. His sense of humour precedes him. He will be forever missed by those lives he has touched. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta (10531 Kingsway Avenue Edmonton, Alberta T5H 4K1). A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held on Saturday January 14th, 2016 at 1pm at the Golden Age Centre (10222 101 Avenue Grande Prairie, Alberta).
