Obituary of George Lewchuk

September 15, 1932 – January 12, 2017 On January 12, 2017, George Lewchuk at the age of 84 was called to his last great adventure. He loved working in the oilfield where he spent his time in the arctic as a drilling technician. He hand fed arctic wolves from his hands, flew small aircraft and parachuted out of a few, too. He rode across Canada on a 500 cc motorcycle with his wife Evelyn sitting behind him. He did just about anything interesting and sometimes death defying, traveling to almost every continent. Our family has always been thrilled to sit around with him hearing about his adventures and passing on his legacy to live life to the fullest, to always be kind, and to lend a helping hand to those in need. George was a vibrant, strong man who lived a good life, loved and was loved. Upon retiring, he committed his life to volunteering at the Spirit River museum and dedicating his time, along with Evelyn's, to making the museum into a true gem of the north for the town. His greatest hope was that someone would pick up the torch and carry on this great work. George leaves to remember him his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn; two daughters, Wanda (Ron) Hassman, Gale (Wayne) Katchur; grandchildren Ryan (Rychelle) Katchur, Cassandra (Dave) Tremblay, Evan (Michelle) Hassman, and Erin (Thomas) Bork. He was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Scott, Steve, Skyler Hassman, Rune, Kaia Katchur, Logan and Arianna Bork. He was Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Friend. George will be fondly remembered by many extended family and countless friends God called home a good man, not a perfect man but a good man. As per his expressed wishes there will be no service.
