Obituary of Birger Roald Slind Garberg
April 2, 1931 – January 26, 2017
Birger Roald Slind Garberg passed away on January 26, 2017 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 85 years.
He was born, lived and died on the family homestead along the Emerson Trail. At the age of 17 years his father passed away and Birger took over the farm and he never left the farm, not even to find his wife Caroline who lived across the road. They were married on November 13, 1954 and raised their 5 children on the farm.
Birger enjoyed farming, tinkering in his shop and later on started to do woodworking projects.
Birger is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Caroline; children Norman (Lynn), Barry (Joanne), Linda (Cody) Gerlitz and Carol (Richard); 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; brother Ted (June) Garberg, brothers-in-law Elliot Nelson and Bruno Pohl as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Helga Garberg, brother Benny Garberg, sisters Mildred Farnsworth, Hilma Brekkaas, Gerda Hannas, Cora Pohl, daughter Lorry Hall and grandson Shaun Morin.
A Celebration of Life for Birger Garberg will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 11am at the Beaverlodge Community Centre, 1014 – 4th Avenue, Beaverlodge, AB.
Everyone is invited to join the family for a time of fellowship following the service.
