Obituary of Leighton Storm Wiebe

October 14, 1996 – February 12, 2017 Leighton Storm Wiebe, 20, of Grande Prairie, passed away in the early morning of February 12, 2017. He was out in the country where he loved it the most. He was born on October 14, 1996 in Grande Prairie, AB, the first-born child of Darla and Lee. They moved out to the farm in Lymburn when Leighton was four and that is where he called home even after he went out on his own at the age of 17. The farm was always home. Leighton started playing hockey when he was 7, and decided to be a goalie just like his dad; it was his greatest passion in life. He played for the Hythe Mustangs and the Beaverlodge Blades, number 59. He also loved quadding, hunting, countryside viewing, fixing cars, and especially taking his truck places where no truck should be. Leighton leaves behind his beloved son, Logan William Wiebe (mother Jamie Gingell), his mother, Darla Bartsch (Clayton Isley), and his father, Lee Wiebe. His younger siblings who are still at home and will forever miss their big brother: Trey, Ryan, and Laine Wiebe, as well as his older sister Terra Crerar and his faithful grandparents, who were a big part of Leighton’s life, Bill and Mary Lou Bartsch; his Uncle Travis Bartsch (Candi Bartsch) and their children: Tanner, Austin, and Ashley Bartsch; Jesse, and Wriley Hunt; his Auntie Jody Johnston (Bartsch) (Jeff Johnston) and their children: Harris and Spencer Kostenuk; Becca, and Gabe Johnston; his Auntie Lydel Metsalaar (Wiebe) (Darren Metsalaar) and their children: Ayrabella and Junah. Leighton is pre-deceased by his grandparents, Marie and Butch Wiebe and their two children, Lynnette and Lane Wiebe. He is at peace now, and we hold him close with us both in spirit, and in memory. He is now our guardian angel, and we know he will always look out and fight for us. There will be a celebration of Leighton’s life on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00 am at the Hythe Alliance Church. There will be a graveside ceremony at the Hythe cemetery for family and close friends, and luncheon to follow at the Lymburn Hall where we all can gather to share stories and have some laughs.
