Obituary of Leonard Godziuk
May 19, 1955 - April 15, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce that Leonard Godziuk, a longtime resident of Hythe, Alberta passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Beaverlodge at the age of 61 years.
Leonard Peter Godziuk was born on May 19, 1955 in Myrnam, Alberta. Leonard spent the first part of his life in the Bonnyville area before moving to Grande Prairie, AB in 1972. He worked in housing construction, and then in 1981 started working for Atco Electric. In 1986, Leonard was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and battled with the disease for the remainder of his life. He spent the last 20 years of his life living at Pioneer Lodge in Hythe, AB.
Len enjoyed woodworking, photography and spending time in nature, especially fishing. His favourite lakes to spend time at were Spring Lake and One Island Lake.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Alice Godziuk, and his brother David. Len is survived by his son Christopher, daughters, Andrea (Dean), Erin and their mother Colleen, and one granddaughter Emerald, along with his brothers Lawrence (Sonya), Larry (Jennifer), his sisters Lorraine and Lorna, and nephews David, Gervaise (Meaghan and Tyler), and Gregory and one niece, Miriam.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 21 at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie, AB with Fr. Albert Sterzer officiating. Burial will take place in Slawa, AB on Monday, April 24 at 1pm. For friends so wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada AB and NWT Division (150, 9405 50 St., Edmonton, AB, T6B 2T4). The family would also like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Pioneer Lodge in Hythe, AB for their years of care and friendship.
