Obituary of Lily Melville Mearns

September 12, 1932 - May 2, 2017

Lily passed away May 2, surrounded by family.

She was born in Lintrathen, Scotland. Lily immigrated to Red Deer, Alberta with her husband William and four children in 1964. They lived in various locations throughout Alberta while raising their family. Lily was always willing to help those in need, and was always happy to stop and chat with her many friends and acquaintances, as a long-time resident of Fox Creek, Alta. She was a kind and generous friend to many. Her greatest happiness, next to her family, was her love of animals. She was known around town as the “lady who fed the deer.” She was also a long-time member of the Fox Creek Light Horse Association. Lily enjoyed reading, knitting, was an avid gardener, and loved anything “purple.” She was also extremely proud of her Scottish heritage and often commented that it was her McGregor blood that made her strong and resilient. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family, and all those whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her brother Alfred McGregor (Nancy) and family in Scotland, her sons Gordon and Bryan, daughters Gwynneth (Murray), Jennifer (Ken), and grandchildren Jasmine (Sheldon), Heather, Alisha and Scott.

She was predeceased by her husband William in 1994.

A Celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fox Creek Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated.
