Obituary of Mary Albina Kish
Mary Albina Kish (nee Arnold) passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie on October 19, 2017.
Mary was born on November 2, 1928 at the Fairview Hospital to parents John and Lily Arnold. Mary spent her childhood years on the family farm near Bluesky, Alberta.
During her high school years, Mary room-and-boarded in Fairview where in addition to going to school, she also waitressed in a local restaurant. It was here that Mary met Frank Kish and they were married in June of 1947. In September 1948, Frank and Mary had their first son Joe Kish. In July 1950, Mary gave birth to her first daughter Diane Schlosser (nee Kish).
Their first ten years of marriage were spent living in a variety of locations, as Frank was a soldier.
About 1957 the family settled in Grande Prairie, Alberta and this is where Mary remained until her passing. In July 1957, Mary had her second son, Ken Kish and in September 1959, Mary has her second daughter Karen Kish.
Mary worked in a variety of jobs until she finally retired. Mary had a green thumb, and her home was generally filled with numerous house plants, as well as having a large garden in the back yard. Mary had a variety of hobbies and kept herself busy all of the time until the last few years when health conditions prevailed for herself and her husband Frank. Mary resided with her husband Frank at the Wild Rose Manor for the past several years. Mary was a very private person, with a unique sense of humour and wit.
Mary was pre-deceased by her brother Edward Arnold, her sister Mabel Yerxa (nee Arnold), her parents John and Lily Arnold, son Ken in 2011, son Joe in 2012 and husband Frank in 2016.
She is survived by her daughters Diane Schlosser and Karen Kish, both from Grande Prairie, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and her brother Bill (Gladys) Arnold.
As per Mary’s request, no formal funeral service will occur in Grande Prairie. A small graveside ceremony will be scheduled for spring 2018 when Mary’s ashes will be laid to rest with her parents at the Waterhole Cemetery near Fairview, Alberta.
