Obituary of Fred Perdue

Fred Perdue, of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday November 6th, 2017.  Fred is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Lorraine, who is still living in Grande Prairie, his two children Donlea (Gerald) and Marten (Leona), his grandchildren Ryan, Kendra, Julie, Curtis, Joshua (Ingrid), Andre (Julia), his great grandchildren Jesse, Matthew, Serenity, Jean-Luca, and his sister Sheila.  He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Agnes, his twin brother Don and his beloved dog Cole.

Fred was born February 25, 1931 in Pemukan, Alberta, where his dad farmed. They moved to the Halcourt area when Fred was 6 years old where they farmed until Fred’s dad became ill, passing away six months later. Fred’s mom, Agnes, moved the family to Wembley, where Fred worked at Bob Kranz’s department store from the time he was in grade seven until he finished high school. 

He first became acquainted with Lorraine at a school dance in Beaverlodge and the sparks began to ignite. After high school, Fred travelled for 3 days on a cattle train heading to Vancouver where he lived for 2 years working on an assembly line for Safeway Tea & Coffee. Fred kept thinking of the pretty gal back home and headed back to the Peace Country where he & Lorraine were married in 1953. Their first home was in Dawson Creek, B.C. where Fred was employed with Northern Gas and Propane. Continuing in the industry, the family relocated to Fort St John, B.C. with West Coast Transmission. Fred moved on to various jobs within the gas industry at Abbotsford B.C., Nanaimo B.C. and Edmonton AB.

Fred and Lorraine’s final move was to Grande Prairie in 1970 where he was employed with North Western Utilities until he retired in 1996. Fred was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, holding a position of Past Master of Lake Saskatoon Lodge in Wembley, AB. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 61 years, and served several years in The Reserve Army. Fred enjoyed prospecting and was an avid coin & stamp collector. He also spent many enjoyable volunteer hours working for the SPCA, Red Cross & Royal Canadian Legion.

We, who remain for a time on this earth, will miss Dad/Fred dearly, until we reunite once again on that Last Great Day.

There will be no formal funeral service at Fred’s request.  Condolences may be sent to Lorraine Perdue at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie and on-line at Bear Creek Funeral Home.
