Obituary of Douglas Foster Van Schaick
Douglas Foster Van Schaick
March 2, 1939 – November 24, 2017
We are wishing goodbye with love to Douglas Foster Van Schaick, of Grande Prairie, AB, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 24th, 2017 at the age of 81.
Doug is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia, as well as his sister Irene, his five children Chrystal, Foster (Laurie), Shelagh (Walter), Laura (Warren), Carol (Dan), his grandchildren Foster Jr.(Brianna), Chris, Kyle, Amy (Chris), Aaron (Jane), Jennifer, Todd, and Matthew. He was predeceased by his parents, Foster and Marie, and sister Patricia.
Dad was born in Grande Prairie on March 2nd, 1936, and resided here all his life. His family homesteaded in South Wapiti. Dad worked for many years at McGavin’s Bakery, as well as Proctor & Gamble/Weyerhauser.
After retiring, Dad very much enjoyed his hobby farm near Grovedale. Doug and Pat spent winters in Arizona for 17 years before returning to Grande Prairie. He was an avid blackpowder rifle shooter, and enjoyed snowmobiling, quadding, geocaching, hunting, fishing, trapping, exploring in the Arizona desert, and bacon (but who doesn’t).
Dad spent his last days at hospice surrounded by his loving family, watching John Wayne movies and eating his favorite foods as well as visiting with many friends. A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Points West Hospice, and special thanks to Shannon Terepocki who was his healthcare aide and friend.
Goodbye sweet man.
There will be no formal funeral service at Doug's request.
