Obituary of Nick B. Shmyr

February 10, 1932 – January 7, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick B. Shmyr of Rycroft, Alberta on January 7, 2018 at the age of 85 years.  Nick leaves behind his daughter Velma (Mike) and sons Mark, (Bernice), Marvin (Marlena), Alvin, Shawn (Sherry) and daughter in-law Joanne.  He is also survived by sisters Mary (Habiak) and Victoria (McIntyre) and brothers Michael and Peter. Nick also leaves behind many grandchildren including, Kristi (Darren), Blake (Fharon), Kelsey (Jared), Cordell (Megan), Ashley, Bryden (Kerry) and Lindsey (Chad).   Nick was also proud of his great grandchildren, Jensen, Pyper, Eberly, Uriah, Reet, Caisley and Axton.

Nick was predeceased by his loving wife Pauline (2008) and son Virgil (2015). 

Nick will be greatly missed by his many friends in the Peace Country and beyond. They include those with whom he farmed, hunted and fished.

The family would also like to thank the staff at the Central Peace Hospital Complex for their care and support.

A Celebration of Life for Nick Shmyr will be held on Saturday January 13, 2018 at 11:00 am, at the Memorial hall in Rycroft with interment to follow at the Old Mission Cemetery, between Rycroft and Spirit River.  The family invites you to join them after the internment at the Rycroft Memorial Hall where a luncheon will be served.
