Obituary of Alf Erling Johansen
November 30, 1944 – May 29, 2018
It is with great sadness that what we have to say goodbye to Alf, who passed away at the age of 73 from complications during surgery at the Mazankowski Heart Institute in Edmonton with his dear wife Marge by his side.
Alf was born in Channel, Newfoundland and as a young boy served as an alter boy at the Anglican Cathedral in St. Johns. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy and became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 54 in Grande Prairie where he was a chef. Alf also worked for Brinks in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Alf had a great sense of humour and was a devoted family man. He was a true hockey fan and news fanatic. He had a love for gardening where he spent many hours. Come rain or shine he would spend time watching it grow and listening to the birds. Just don’t touch his trees.
Leaving to mourn is his dear wife Marge, stepdaughter Shelly (Sean) Boyce, grandchildren Sydney, Dayten, brothers Larry (Donna) Johansen, Gary Johansen, Ole (Tracy) Johansen, sisters Julia “Trudy” (Glen) Chase, Klara Johansen, Sonja (Eric) Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alf was predeceased by his parents Alf and Violet in 2003, and his dog Puggy in 2012, who he loved so much.
A Celebration of life will be held Friday June 8th, 2018 at Bear Creek Funeral Home/Richmond Reception Center (11802 – 99 Ave Grande Prairie, Alberta) at 2:00pm.
