Obituary of Cheryl Ann Dyck
February 14, 1957 – June 9, 2018
Cheryl Anne Dyck of Grande Prairie, Alberta, formerly of Dawson Creek, BC passed away in Grande Prairie on Saturday, June 9, 2018.
Cheryl was born in High Prairie, AB, the second child to Harry and Betty Blois and was raised in Codesa until age 14 when the family moved to the Dawson Creek area in 1971. When Cheryl was in Grade 8 she met her sister from another mother, Kathy Berry. Up until Cheryl passed away there wasn’t a day that went by that these two friends did not talk on the phone.
In 1975 Cheryl married Pat Ryan and in November 1976 they had their first of two sons, Patrick and in 1978, their second son, Darin was born. Cheryl and Pat separated and in 1983 Cheryl met Al Calliou and their son, Todd was born in November of 1984.
Cheryl raised the boys in Dawson Creek where as a single mother, she worked numerous jobs to provide for her and the boys. The boys started growing up and moving on to start their own lives and in 2008 she met her soul mate, Dave Dyck who she married on May 31, 2008 and they moved to the farm south of town. Cheryl and Dave lived on the farm together for the next few years, gardening, planting flowers, enjoying the small farm life. Then on June 12, 2013 Dave passed away and in October of that year Cheryl sold the farm and moved to Grande Prairie where she purchased a house. She wanted to be closer to her family, especially her two granddaughters Lily and Alivia Ryan. To say that her grand girls were her life is an understatement. When Lily finally learned how to use a phone she would call Grandma and set up a play date. Grandma would drop everything and off they would go; shopping, baking, playing card, playing UNO, board games or even playing jokes.
Cheryl also loved cooking big meals and hosting everyone at her place, from cooking big turkeys and all the trimmings to BBQing, she loved her whole family.
On Saturday, June 9th, Cheryl decided it was time to go to finally make her faith a reality. She fought hard but her Jesus had other plans. Cheryl will be greatly missed by her family.
We love you Granny.
Cheryl is survived by her sons; Patrick (Tara) Ryan, Lily and Alivia, Darin Ryan and Todd Calliou; her brothers Lenny (Sandy) Blois, Wendell (Kelly) Blois and Troy Vig as well numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Cheryl will be held on Saturday, June 16th, at 1pm at the Coco Hall in Wanham, Alberta.
Donations in memory of Cheryl may be made to the Salvation Army, 1019 103 Avenue, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 2G6
