Obituary of Lorne Allan Thoresen

February 20, 1940 - September 25, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorne Thoresen announce his peaceful passing on Sept. 25, 2018.  Dad was born in Kinistino, Saskatchewan, and even though he moved away as a young man he always kept a piece of Sask in his heart. He was one of six children and was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Juliette, sister Alma, sister-in-law Joan and brother-in-law Andy.

After leaving Sask. Dad moved his family to Port Alberni, B.C. and lived on the island for many years.  He moved to Alberta in 1974, after his wife, Carole, passed away, and it was here that he began a career as a trucker and married Annette in 1978.  Dad was proud to be a truck driver because it allowed him to see so much of the country he loved.  It is doubtful there's a road in the western provinces and territories he didn't travel once or twice and his daughters we were lucky enough to share some of these travels and meet some of his buddies over a cup of joe.  He was an avid sports fan and could recite hockey and baseball stats faster than we could google!  Throughout the years he enjoyed many camping and fishing trips.  One particular trip saw him buy the infamous double decker ice cream cone in Pouce Coupe...we still chuckle at the look of shock on his face when the quart of ice cream piled on a cone arrived...there was more than enough to share with his grandkids and then some.  His great joy in the last few years was being "Poppa" to his youngest grandson.  He never visited without a treat in his pocket, a practice he was well known for.

Lorne will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Annette Thoresen, and his daughters:  Wendy Crispin (Jack), Wanda Geldof (Tim), Keri Rolles (Cory), Marcy Thoresen (Kevin).  We are thankful for the many happy memories created with his grandchildren:  Jenna, John, Timothy, Willem, Katherine, Lauren, Ian, Paige, Preston, Logan and his four great grandchildren.  He is survived by his brothers Ole and Conrad, and his sisters Lorraine and Julie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the QE II, especially the nurses of 3N, who showed us such compassion and understanding throughout Dad's time there.  We are also very grateful to homecare and the staff at the Lakeview Lodge for caring for our father with such respect and brightening his days with their humor.
