Obituary of Chris Chop
October 24, 1947 – December 6, 2018
Christina (Chris) Hedwig Chop was born on October 24, 1947 at the Manning Hospital; the third child of Michael and Hedwig Chop.
Chris attended the Dixonville school, in Dixonville, Alberta. She went on to work at the Fairview College as an apprentice cook and then went to school at the Alberta Vocational College in Edmonton and became a Journeyman cook with the Red Seal of Canada. Chris returned to the Fairview College and worked there as a cook for seven years. She then left her job and went to work at Hotel Dieu in Whitelaw for 4 months. During that time, she applied to NAIT in Edmonton to go into training for an LPN and was immediately accepted. In 1986 she graduated and worked at the Fairview Nursing Home and the Fairview Hospital.
In 1989 she applied for a position at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie and was hired on as a float LPN and really enjoyed working on the different floors.
In 2005 she took early retirement to become a caregiver to our Mom who was bedridden by then and very ill. In 2008 she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer. The longevity for this cancer is 5 years, but Chris fought the cancer for 10 years, never crying or asking, “Why me?”. She was strong willed and refused to let the cancer take over her life.
On December 6, 2018 Chris lost her courageous battle with cancer and passed away peacefully with her sister Irene by her side, holding her hand, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie.
Chris was predeceased by her father Michael Chop in 1977, mother Hedwig Chop in 2008, her brother Stanley chop in 2017, and her nephew David Yuhar in 1989.
She is survived by her sisters Irene Chop of Grande Prairie, and Annie Yuhar (John) of Strathmore. She is also survived by her nephew Michael Yuhar (Kelli) and their three sons of Whitecourt, nephew Victor Yuhar (Sheila) and their two sons and daughter of Whitecourt, niece Mary Kruse (Randy) and their three sons of Strathmore, and niece and goddaughter Teresa Christopher (Richard) and their daughter of Calgary.
