Obituary of Wayne Brent Rowland

July 25, 1957 - February 10, 2019

It is with heavy hearts our family mournfully announce the passing of Wayne Brent Rowland on February 10, 2019 in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Wayne was born in Spirit River, Alberta on July 25, 1957, as a twin to his brother Blaine. He was raised on what he would proudly say was ‘moose meat and macaroni’. He graduated at Sexmith High School in 1976, sports man of the year and went on to acquire his mechanics certificate working alongside his father and brother in the Rowland and Son’s garage in LaGlace. Wayne met Lois Wells in 1977 and married in 1979. Together they raised three children. They moved to Pine Point, NWT and there he operated heavy equipment until there was an opening in a mechanic’s shop. Upon moving to Wembley, he went to work alongside his father again with Rowland’s Hot Shot business until it was sold. He eventually bought a truck and trailer and continued to work hauling for the oil patch for many years. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman, running trap lines in the Northwest Territories, hunting large game and of course fishing home and abroad. Wayne was also a fan of badminton and racquetball.

Wayne is survived by his new wife, Carmencita, whom him married Christmas 2018 as well as his three adult children; daughter Robyn (John) Maiden, son Darwin (Melanie) Rowland and son Riley Rowland.

His is also survived by his grandchildren; Chloe, Hannah, Leo, Esme, Zoey, and Miriam; his mother Lorna Rowland and siblings Karen, Bonnie (Doug), Les (Donna), Blaine (Mona), Ross (Gail), Lorne (Shawna), Leanne (Ray), Marvin, Kory (Julia) and many, many cousins and friends.

Wayne is predeceased by his infant daughter (twin to Robyn, Baby Rowland), his older brother Doug Rowland, his father Glen Rowland, and grandparents Roy and Maggie Rowland, Joesph and Dorothy Farnsworth.

We will be celebrating Wayne’s life on April 12th in People’s Church, 11850 – 108 Street, Grande Prairie at 11am.
