Obituary of Donald Melvin Brown

December 31, 1942 – April 22, 2017

On April 22nd, 2017, Mel Brown passed away at the QEII hospital at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with stroke complications.

Mel was born in Sexsmith and raised on the family farm at Teepee Creek, the eldest of eleven, having 8 brothers and 2 sisters. He developed a hard work ethic during his years growing up on the farm which continued throughout his lifetime in a varied working career, from elevator agent, partsman, sales, management and finally trucking, which he loved. He had an engaging personality and made many friends.  Mel enjoyed socializing and took great pleasure in giving people close to him a hard time.

Mel is survived by daughter Shawna (Pat) Myker, their children Paige and Kale, son Jason (Penny) Brown, their sons Tavis, Blake and Aiden, as well as Karen Brown (mother of Shawna and Jason).  He has also left his siblings Betty (Orval) Sorken, David (Ellen), Dale (Alejandra), Helen (Jim) McQuaig, Russell, Brad, Lorne (Elaine), Ted (Leona), Ron (Eveline), Kelly and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

An informal memorial gathering will be held for Mel at 2 pm, Saturday, April 29th, at Clarkson Hall (Evergreen Park).  The family invites anyone to share stories during the tribute.
