Obituary of Eilene Bangen-Watson
Eilene Palma Bangen Watson, a long time resident of Grande PrairieAB passed away suddenly and peacefully at the age of 84 years on Saturday January 17th, 2015 at the Grande Prairie Care Centre. She was born on September 16, 1930 in SexsmithAB and lived in Sexsmith, Peace River, Grande Prairie and Edmonton.
After attending NorthfieldSchool in LaGlaceAB, Eilene married Orlo Bangen in 1948 and spent several years at home helping raise her two boys and would later spend many years working for Safeway both in Grande Prairie and Edmonton. She also worked for Holroyd Drugs in Grande Prairie.
Eilene was a long time member of TrinityLutheranChurch where she enjoyed singing in the Ladies Choir as well as participating in other church activities. She was a dedicated and hardworking wife and mother who kept her home in immaculate condition and continued to work well into her 70’s caring for other people’s homes in addition to her own.
She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and it was during her early years at home on the farm where she learned to write and speak Norwegian that it became an important part of her life. She also had the fortune of travelling to Norway in the 70’s where she visited family and learned more about her family’s heritage. Family and being around friends as well as her faith were also very important to Eilene.
Eilene loved to help others, whether it be visiting people in hospital, volunteering for worthy causes of preparing food for those in need or making clothes and quilts for family and friends. The door to her home was always open and she loved to cook and bake Norwegian delicacies and other yummy treats which were enjoyed by all.
Eilene is survived by her two sons, Terry (Marg) of Kamloops BC, Leroy (Christy) of Carseland AB, four grandchildren: Kyle (Michelle) of Westerville Ohio, Kirsten (Nat) of Vernon BC, Cody and Courtney of Carseland AB and Great granddaughter Aila of Westerville Ohio, brothers Paul of Grande Prairie, Conley of Edmonton AB, Earl of Winnipeg MB, sisters Joyce of Dawson Creek BC and Shirley of Edmonton AB and by numerous relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Julia Fredland, her husband Orlo of 50 years in 1998 and her second husband Jim Watson in 2010.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 16th at 1:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Friesen officiating. Cremation has taken place and internment will be at Northfield Cemetery in LaGlace AB on Saturday May 16th at 11:00 am.
