Obituary of Douglas Gordon Couturier

March 27, 1946 – September 5, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Dad, Doug Couturier, of Grande Prairie AB. 

Doug was born on March 27, 1946 in Coronation, AB to Len & Jean Couturier and passed away at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the age of 73.

He lived in Coronation, AB until the family moved to Innisfail, AB where he met and married his wife, Bonnie Rowland.  He attended SAIT and received his Heavy-Duty Mechanics license in 1969.  After a visit to Pine Point Northwest Territories to visit his in-laws, he decided that they should move there and work in the mine.  After the first day of work, he came home and announced that he wasn’t staying, but Bonnie convinced him to wait a year before they moved.  In 1970 they moved to Grande Prairie to work at R. Angus; he left there and went to work for Proctor & Gamble until 1979. Then he left to form his own mobile mechanical service that he operated until 2012.  Doug decided that the mechanical business was too tough as he got older and decided the join the fabulous crew at Resource Purchasing where he worked until the day of his passing.  He really enjoyed working with his Resource family.

Doug had a zest for life and was well liked by everyone.  The great joy of his life were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a very social person and loved to talk to anyone that would listen.  He especially loved to tease the old and young alike and would always come up with a smart comeback to any who tried to tease him back.

Doug leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, Bonnie, son Leon (Lisa), daughter Michelle (Jody) Dubord, grandchildren; Taylor Hoag, Brendon McLeod, Dakota Fredrickson, Hailey Fredrickson, Chasen Fredrickson; great grandchildren; Nova & Ava Hoag; his sister Maureen (Cliff) Mowat, brother-in-law Darrell (Julie), sister-in-law Karen Wells, brothers-in-law Les (Donna) Rowland, Blaine (Mona) Rowland, Ross (Gail) Rowland, Lorne (Shawna) Rowland, sister-in-law Leanne (Ray) Buller, brothers-in-law Marvin Rowland and Kory(Julia) Rowland.

He was predeceased by his parents, Len and Jean Couturier, brother Les Couturier, father-in-law Glen Rowland, brother-in-law Doug Rowland, and brother-in-law Wayne Rowland.

A Celebration of Life for Doug will be held at The People’s Church, 11850-108 Street, Grande Prairie, AB on Thursday, September 12^, 2019 at 2PM.
