Obituary of R. Paul DeVries

20 July 1961 to 6 Nov 2019

With broken hearts we share the news of Paul’s passing at home in Grande Prairie.

Predeceased by his mother Grace; he is survived by his loving partner Cheryl, his sons Colton, Matthew and Josh and their mother Anita. Also grieving his passing are his father Lou, siblings Jeannette (Gary), Bob (Jane) and Karel. Paul will be fondly remembered by two generations of nieces and nephews, and extended family in BC, Washington and the Netherlands as well as Cheryl’s children Amy and Bryce. His Grande Prairie family of friends and neighbours were exceedingly dear to him. Notably missing him is the family dog Dex.

He fought bravely, with humor, faith and hope. Paul wanted us to thank the many medical people who used their talents to help him fight his cancer. Not all can be named but there is not one who crossed his path to whom he was not grateful, particularly Drs. Gutfreund and Richard Owen of U of A Hospital, Drs. Moreau and Barreth of the GP Cancer Clinic and Palliative Care and the many, many nurses, technicians and receptionists who tried to make his burden easier to bear.

Paul loved fishing and camping, he loved playing instruments and listening to “his tunes.” Winning or losing he liked to play cards and WordChums with the girls. He was a great cook and the kitchen was his domain. Paul was also an exceedingly skilled handyman and enthusiastically shared his skills and expertise wherever and whenever needed.

Cremation has taken place. Interment at a later date in Abbotsford BC.

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:4
