Obituary of Steven Gordon McLaughlin

October 16, 1955 – March 16, 2020 Steve Gordon McLaughlin, long-time resident of Woking Alberta, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 at the age of 64 with family by his side after a long battle with cancer at Prairie Lake Hospice in Grande Prairie Alberta. Steve was born on October 16, 1955 in Winchester Ontario, to Gordon and Mona McLaughlin. Steve settled in the Central Peace area in 1977. He enjoyed the outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing or camping with family and friends. It was hard to keep him inside for more than a couple of hours. Steve farmed and worked in the oilfield in the Peace region for over 40 years making many friends along the way. He had a huge heart and was just a phone call away to any neighbour who needed a hand or advice no matter the size of the task. Steve is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Marlene of 38 years, son Shayne McLaughlin (Jasmine), brother and sister in law Terry and Liz Kushner, brother Barry McLaughlin (Kathy), sister Laura Nett, father Gordon McLaughlin and mother Mona Landriault. Steve will also be greatly missed by neighbours and friends in the area that he considered family. Steve was predeceased by his Grandfather and Grandmother Douglas and Ruth Macleod and his brother Sandy McMillan. The family would like to thank Dr. Noga, Dr. Weiss, Dr. Smylie, Dr. Bigam, Dr. Joseph, Dr. Owen, Dr. Spratlin, and the teams at the Cross Cancer Institute, Royal Alexandra Hospital, the University Of Alberta Hospital and all the home care staff for all their care, compassion and advice while Steve battled cancer.
