Obituary of Aurore Poirier
Aurore Julienne Poirier, a long-time resident of the farming community of Sunset House, Alberta, passed away Friday the 10th of July at Points West Living, Grande Prairie.
Born in 1921 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, Aurore moved to Port Alberni in her twenties where she met and married Armand Poirier. Shortly after their eldest son Roger was born, they moved to Alberta in the early 1950’s, eventually settling in Sunset House on a farm homestead. They had three more children and raised their family on the farm. In 1974 they sold their homestead and began semi-retirement in B.C.’s Okanagan where they bought and ran their own service station business. After losing Armand in 1979, Aurore returned to Alberta to be closer to family. She spent some of her more recent years in the Red Willow Lodge, Valleyview. When dementia started to take its toll, she relocated to Grande Prairie’s Points West Living to receive the extra care she required until her passing.
Aurore was a fabulous cook and will be fondly remembered for her fantastic pie making skills; including her famous tourtieres and the best pie crust in the world. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, playing cards and spending time with family. She had an infectious laugh and warm smile, and will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her children: Lorraine (David); Dennis (Beverly); and Yvette (Al); her Grandchildren; Tracy, Kerry (Brendan); Jason (Dianna); Laurie Ann (Jeff); Jennifer (Ryatt); Tyler (Terri); Debbie (Rick); Dennis (Lesley); Melissa (Brent); Jonathan; and Nicole. She was also blessed with 17 great-grand children; and three great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Armand and son Roger.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17th at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Valleyview, Alberta, with Father Lavoie officiating. Interment will follow at Valleyview Cemetery.
