Obituary of Cheryl Mae Chase

CHASE, Cheryl Mae “WHEAT”/ “WHEATIE WHEAT” passed away on July 18, 2014 in Grande Prairie, Alberta at the age of 56 years. She was born on January 8th, 1958 in Windsor, Ontario. She shared a birthday with two of her music idol’s, Elvis Presley and David Bowie. It is with great sadness that we must announce that Cheryl passed away from diabetes related complications. Loving and proud mother to Whisper Leigh Chase Wilshire (Dustin), and deceased son Andrew Joseph Vernon Chase-Young (1987). She will always live on as Nanny to her grandson (who will arrive in October). She was the devoted partner to Pierre Mailloux, who was by her side when she drifted on peacefully. She is survived by her brothers; Lenard (Monica), Jeff, and Anthony. Sisters; Carol Tristaino (Charles), Franny (Steve), Debbie and Krista. Nieces and nephews; Sheri (Don), Giovannina (Jamil), Stephanie, Raelynn and Chad. Great nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jordan, Owen, Marissa, Sierra, Jayla and Nyah. Cheryl has reunited in the afterlife with her son Andrew (1987); mother, Gloria Scott Chase (1993); nephew, James Chase (2008); and father, Richard Chase (2011). At her request, she was cremated and her ashes will be kept with her partner Pierre, laid to rest with her son, Andrew, and scattered by her daughter, Whisper. Cheryl was a firecracker with a smile that lit up the room, and a charming personality to match. She had a larger than life presence, and could infect any room with her roaring laughter. She touched the lives of so many by giving fully of her heart and any material possessions she had. She was selfless and caring, and put the needs of others ahead of her own. In her lifetime, she held various jobs working with special needs children and adults. She also enjoyed working as a home care nurse for the elderly. She loved to help those in need and genuinely touched people’s lives in a profound way because she deeply cared. She was a natural caregiver that shared her light with everyone she met. She will be remembered for her amazing cuisine (the best cabbage rolls and potato salad EVER!), creativity, crafting, and for being the pillar of strength in her family and social circles. She had endured so much in her 56 years on this planet, and truly lived, laughed and loved with her entire being. On that note, Ma loved to laugh and she wouldn’t want us crying over her at a funeral. To honor her, remember the good times and the laughter, and know that wherever the party is, that’s where she’ll be.
