Obituary of Arthur Roy Wingfield
Roy was born on a farm southwest of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where he lived until he was 18. He was deployed overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943-1946 where he met his wife of over 65 years, Mary Hammond. After marrying in England on November 7, 1945, Roy and Mary returned to the farm in Maple Creek in 1946, with Roy arriving in the spring and Mary in the fall. They then moved to Vancouver where their first daughter (Angela) was born. Roy and Mary returned to Maple Creek in 1950 when Roy started working with Saskatchewan Hospitals and where they welcomed the addition of three more daughters (Patricia, Karen, and Rose). They had a busy life in Maple Creek with Roy working full time at the hospital, constructing homes, volunteering as an Army Reservist, and also furthering his education at the University of Saskatoon. In 1966 the family moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta where Roy was employed at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and continued his volunteer work with the Army Reserves. Roy and Mary retired to a farm in the Grovedale area in 1980, where Roy served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Grovedale school until 1990. When Mary passed away in 2011, Roy returned to Grande Prairie until his passing.
