Obituary of Karla J. Lemky

On August 13, 2015, Karla Joanne Lemky passed away surrounded by her loving family. After a long 12 year struggle with brain cancer, Karla suffers no more. Karla completed grade 12 and graduated in 1991 from the Composite High School in Grande Prairie. She then went to the Grande Prairie Regional College from 1991 to 1993 to take the Early Childhood Development program. She loved working with children as each one loved her back. Karla was a true inspiration to all who knew her. Karla met the love of her life Jon in the summer of 1995. After a five year courtship they were married on August 5, 2000! One year later, their first daughter Alanna entered their lives and two years later Emma completed the family. Karla was diagnosed with a brain tumor 12 years ago and in all those 12 years no one ever heard her say “why me?” or complain, again, a true inspiration. Karla is survived by her husband Jon, children Alanna (14) and Emma (12), father Mervyn, sister Karen (Mick) Phillips, brother Kenneth Sylven, mother-in-law Margaret Lemky, sister-in-law Joyce (Ron) McLeod, brother-in-law Byron Lemky, brother-in-law Steven Lemky, sister-in-law Vivian Lemky, sister-in-law Delphine Lemky (Andrew Sim) and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. She is pre-deceased by her mother Sonia Sylven and father-in-law Lawrence Lemky. The families wish to extend the warmest thank you to all of the healthcare workers that have attended to Karla’s care. A Celebration of Life will be held for Karla at the People’s Church (11850 108 Street Grande Prairie, Alberta) on Friday August 21, 2015 at 2:00pm with a luncheon to follow. Memorial donations may be made in Karla’s memory to the QEII Foundation (10409 98 Street Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V 2E8).
