Barbara Amelia Powell passed away on October 6, 2015 in Grande Prairie following a stroke. Barbara was born on February 25, 1931 at the Buffalo Lakes Store to Douglas and Clara Bailey, the youngest of 5 children. She started her teaching career at Canuck, a one room school house, in 1950 and also taught at various schools in the County of Grande Prairie ending at Harry Balfour in 1966. Barbara had a gift for decorating wedding cakes and enjoyed painting, needlepoint and knitting. In her later years, Barbara volunteered at the Swanavon School. Over the years, Barbara and Maurice enjoyed many summers camping at the Red Willow. Barbara was predeceased by husband Maurice, her parents, sisters Marguerite, Edith, Gwen, and brother Ronald. She is survived by sons Craig (Gloria), and Dan (Wendy,) grandchildren Trevor and Avril and her brother-in-law Reece (Eunice) and sister-in-law Phylis. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (9929 105 Ave) on Monday, October 19 from 1 to 4.
