Eugene Sarrasin

Obituary of Eugene Sarrasin

Eugene Sarrasin passed away suddenly February 7 at the age of 73. Eugene was born in Domremy, Saskatchewan to Agnes and Albert Sarrasin May 11, 1942. He was the second of 10 children. He spent his childhood in Northern Saskatchewan, living in many different places including Crystal Lake, Candle Lake, Pine Valley and Prince Albert. As a teenager he joined the air cadets and worked hard to get his pilot’s licence. He dreamed of joining the air force or becoming a commercial pilot. Sadly the regulations would not allow him to continue as a pilot once he needed glasses. He then moved to Prince George after he was transferred there with the department store Krezgys. While there he married his childhood friend, Rosemary Davies, which would be the beginning of a 50 year love story. Another transfer found them in Calgary where they had their first two daughters. Eugene then apprenticed, earning his journeyman sheet metal mechanic certificate. Shortly after, Eugene and Rosemary moved to Grande Prairie. They lived in the city for a few years before settling on their family farm in the Webster area. There they built their house, shop, farm and businesses from scratch. They also added two more daughters to complete their family. As a family Eugene and Rosemary have lived, worked, and farmed the same land for almost 40 years. One of their greatest accomplishments was their businesses; Mighty Peace Heating, and the Sexsmith Bakery, which they opened and operated for 12 years. But Eugene’s greatest joy came from spending time with Rosemary and his grandchildren. Many happy times were spent fishing, quadding, and skidooing, cheering at sporting events, snuggling in his chair, and involving his kids in every day farm life. He is sadly missed by his wife Rosemary. As well as his children: Dorothy (Dave) Woolsey, Joelanne (Dale) Liland, Leah (Perley) Sterr, and Meagan (Jared) Chuchmuch. Missing the best Papa in the entire world are his grandchildren: Katherine Woolsey; Dallen, Dannie, and Kelly Liland; Ellie and Peter Sterr; and Carter and Jenna Chuchmuch. He also leaves behind his mother Agnes Sarrasin, His eight sisters: Augustine, Elaine, Evelyn, Marie, Louise, Margaret, Jeanette, and Vivian, and one brother, Laurent, along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday February 12.
