Obituary of Albert Lacey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albert Lacey on March 11, 2016. Albert passed away peacefully in the Spirit River Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Albert was born on June 18th, 1927 in Borden, Saskatchewan to George and Alice Lacey. Al spent his childhood on a farm near Shell Lake, Saskatchewan with his parents, his two sisters and his three brothers. In November of 1950, Al married Lois Lalonde. Shortly after being married, Al and Lois moved to the Port Alberni area where Al worked in the logging industry. This is also where their three sons; Wayne, George, and Jeff; were born. After Lois passed away in 1957, Al continued to work in the logging industry all over BC and parts of Alberta. In the early 1970s, Al met Fern Burton, who was a cook in one of the many camps he worked in. They lived in different areas of the Peace Country, until eventually settling in Grovedale, AB. Al continued logging and then started driving truck for Gibsons in the early 80s until he retired in 2000. In 2003, Al and Fern went their separate ways, eventually selling their home in Grovedale. Al then moved into Grande Prairie where he lived with his grandson, Dillon. While living in Grande Prairie, Al made many trips Happy Valley area in order to help his son, Wayne, tend to the buffalo. Al spent many hours, days, and even nights checking buffalo and tending fence. Wayne and Al soon got out of buffalo and into cattle, moving to Silver Valley. Al lived out the rest of his years tending to cows, fixing fences, swathing and baling hay, and living the simple life until his recent death. Al wore many hats over the years. First as an esteemed and highly sought after hi-rigger, a skilled trucker, a horse enthusiast, and finally a hobby farmer. Al leaves behind to mourn two sons; Wayne and Jeff Lacey; two daughter-in-laws; Ferne Lacey-Short and Brenda Lacey; grandchildren; Dillon (Kerri) Lacey, Ryan (Lucie) Lacey, Ames (Kazu, Corey (Bobbie) Lacey, Erin Lacey, and Cal (Ashley) Lacey; his great grandchildren; Vance, Rayne, Khai, Sawyer, Clark, Logan, Shannon, and Kessler; Ex-common law partner; Fern Burton; step sons; Tom (Alisa) Burton, Tim (Barb) Burton, Doug (Denise) Burton and their children and grandchildren; sisters; Irene Johnson and Joyce Smith; brothers; Gerald (Bev) Lacey, Clarence (Theresa) Lacey, and Lorne (Barb) Lacey; Al is pre-deceased by his wife Lois, son George Lacey, stepson Don Burton, his parents George and Alice Lacey; and brother-in-laws; Walter Johnson and Jim Smith. Friends and family are invited to the Golden Age Center in Grande Prairie on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 2 pm to 4 pm for a Celebration of Albert’s Life. Tea and coffee will be served.
