I first met Tom back in 1985 when I worked for my uncle in High Level. An awesome person to have a few drinks with and a sense of humor 2nd to none. Later, when we got The Poverty Plainsmen going Tom was always at our shows within a 500 km radius of Grande Prairie. Tom was a person that I always loved to see walk in to any venue we were playing. He sat and really listened to what we were doing, making us play a little better… I could see that he was a true music lover. One evening in October 1990 he got up the nerve to get up and sing “Sticks & Stones” by Tracy Lawrence at The StarDust in High Level…. And he did pretty darn good for a green horn singer! He was an honorary plainsman from that moment onward. Tom and Florence opened their home to us on many occasions for a great meal and gave us a sense of family on the road when we couldn’t be with our own families. When we had our accident in 2004 Tom was there in a big way for us… Treated us like brothers. Thanks Tom for being an honorary Poverty Plainsman… AKA TOM. A. HAWK You will be missed…. Rest in peace My friend! Mark Smith ( Lead Singer The Poverty Plainsmen )

My sincerest condolences to Flo & family. I will never forget the good times we had with you all over the years, from Tom singing (or should I say attempting) to sing with us (The Poverty Plainsmen) on stage & at back yard get togethers, to the wonderful hospitality you extended to us everytime we were in the Grande Prairie region, to the jokes and laughter we always seemed to share. He was a great guy who always had a way to make us laugh and was a great guy to know. Proud to call him a friend. Brad (The Poverty Plainsmen) Johnson

Jean, Florence and Family My deepest sympathy to each of you at this time. My thoughts of Thomas go back to a sweet little boy of 6 years old and then recently when we had the opportunity to reunite traveling on the same flight home!
