Obituary of Lloyd Finch

Lloyd Finch, long-time resident of Flying Shot Lake and Wembley area, born on June 27, 1925, passed away on September 6, 2014 at the age of 89 years (or 90 years, depending on who you ask). Lloyd attended school at Flying Shot Lake and later enlisted in the Canadian Armed Services, but he did not see active service. He farmed and logged most of his life until starting an abattoir when cattle prices declined between 1970 – 1980. He then started up the sleigh ride business with Jim, and enjoyed many happy hours at pulling and plowing matches with the Draft Horse Club. Lloyd won many ribbons and trophies over the years, including winning the Alberta Pulling Championship in two years with two different teams. Lloyd liked to play crib or any card games with his grandkids or whoever stopped by for tea or a drink. Lloyd is survived by his sons Tom (Jean), Bob (Ruth), Bill (Brenda), and Jim (Phyllis); daughters Linda (Roy) McAusland and Irene (Bill Auger); 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, many adopted children, good friend Delcie Perry, brother and sister-in-law Alex and Jean Cameron, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary, in 2007, infant son Eddie, infant great-granddaughter Emma, father Slim Finch in 1958, mother Fanny in 1988, and his grandparents. A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held in Clarkson Hall at Evergreen Park on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
