Obituary of John Friedel
John “Johnny” Fredrick Joseph Friedel, 74, of Grande Prairie passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the QE II Hospital. Born in Fairview to Andrew and Annie Friedel, he lived most of his life in the Fairview area.
Johnny loved working on the family farm and also drove truck to support his large family. He was known as Mr. Fixit as he had a knack for fixing anything mechanical. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports and was an enthusiastic fan of his favourite teams; The Calgary Flames and Calgary Stampeders. He loved country drives, laughing and joking around the camp fire and most of all, visiting with his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humour that was enjoyed by all.
Johnny was very proud of his children: Brenda Lynch (Terry), Judy Moore, Wayne Friedel, Brian Friedel, Wendy Thornton (Earl), Blaine Friedel (Bobbi-Jo), Tara Rindfliesch (Jason) and Tyler Friedel. His life was filled with the love of his grandchildren: Marcus, Nevin, Allysa, Brandon, Chad, Cody, Chelsea, Selene, Breanne, Taylor, Jayla and Trace. He is also survived by nine siblings as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Johnny was pre-deceased by his parents Andrew and Annie Friedel, brother Joseph Friedel, sister Leona Chalmers, nephew Danny Chalmers and brother in-law Bud Browns.
Services were held on September 16, 2014 at Friedenstal Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Johnny’s name to the Salvation Army and Project Brock Ruether.
