Obituary of Mildred Lavina Burden

With sadness at the loss, but grateful for her time with us, we announce the passing of Mildred (Millie) Lavina Burden on September 25, 2013 at the age of 64 years. Millie was born Mildred Dicks in South Brook, Newfoundland on August 13, 1949. She graduated from high school in 1968 and vocational school in 1969. Millie married Melvin Burden on August 24, 1973, and went on to have two wonderful sons. After 35 years working with the government of Newfoundland, Millie and Melvin moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta in 2008. In Grande Prairie, she worked at Wild Rose Manor for five years. Her great joys in life were knitting, sewing, crocheting, and taking care of her family. Millie is survived by her husband Melvin Burden, son Norton (Alex), grandchildren Isaac, Nicholas, and Alexandra, brothers Willie (Olive), Bert, Alvin (late Glenys), sisters Violet (Roy Shirer), Jessie (Reg Gumbley), Juanita (late Cyril Smith), Edith (Gordon Frahm), Ivy (Aubrey Oake), and Kim. She was predeceased by her son Stacey Burden, her parents Gilbert and Pearl Dicks, and brothers David and Eldred. A Memorial Service for the late Millie Burden will be held on Saturday, September 28th, at 2:00PM at St. Paul’s United Church, 10206 100th Avenue, Grande Prairie, Alberta. A Memorial Service will also be held in Bonne Bay, Newfoundland, where Millie will be laid to rest in the spring of 2014.
