John Gushlak of Spirit River passed away peacefully at Central Peace Hospital on February 6, 2014 at the age of 86 years. Throughout his battle with cancer, and at his passing, Nancy, his companion of 20 some years was always at his side, along with their dear close friends Matt Deley and Roger Rymhs ; numerous family members; and many friends and neighbors. He will be lovingly remembered by those he leaves to mourn his loss, Nancy, along with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren which were like his own: Rose (Myrne Scott), George Badiuk (Vicky), Sally (Ron Lee) ; his grandsons Myron and Bradley Gushlak; great- grandson Eric Gushlak; great-granddaughter Tori Gushlak; sisters Doris (Mike Didyk), Mary Deley; daughter- in-law Judy Gushlak; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife Elsie; parents Nick and Lena Gushlak; son Ronald; great grandson Ryan Gushlak; and brother in law Andy Deley. John was an electrician and hobby farmer, with a special interest in rewinding electric motors and creating or modifying almost anything that had once stopped working. He loved travelling, fishing, playing cards, tinkering, helping people and visiting. He was a kind gentle soul with a big heart and will be remembered for his quick smile, twinkly eyes and great stories. John had no interest in accumulating a lot of property or wealth. A comfortable home with some family and many good friends, and a lot of time to spend with his friends were his first priorities. He often said that life was to be enjoyed; one should work only as much as one needed to have a comfortable life. The life John led clearly demonstrated he believed in what he was saying. A memorial service for the late John Gushlak will be held at Spirit of the Peace United Church in Spirit River on Saturday, February 15 at 2PM.
