Obituary of Esther Botheras

Esther Botheras of Sexsmith passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the QE II Hospital in Grande Prairie after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Esther was born in Olds on April 24, 1945 and was raised on a beautiful farm just west of town. She attended school from Grade One to Nine at Hainstock School and graduated from Olds High School in 1963. Following graduation, Esther moved to Red Deer and attended Key Secretarial School. After a short stint at the Olds Post Office, Esther moved to Calgary and worked for W.R. Grace and Co. as a secretary. In 1968 she married Campbell and in 1969 they became the proud parents of Casey Lynn. In 1975 the family moved back to Olds and their son James Campbell came along to complete their family. Esther worked for G&L Sales and Service for several years in Olds and then entered the world of drapery and blinds – a passion she would continue until just before her passing. Many know her affectionately as “The Blind Lady”. In 1991, Esther relocated to Grande Prairie and in 1993, she and George Heath settled in Sexsmith. Esther was predeceased by her father Johnny in 1983, mother Elizabeth in 1992, brother John in 2001 and her special friend George in 2007. Esther is now sitting on God’s front porch with these special people having a lively visit and feeling at peace. Esther leaves to mourn her passing: daughter Casey Lynn, son James Campbell and their father Ronald Campbell Brown, her grandchildren Talia and Logan, sister Carol (Al), niece Angela (Terry), grand niece Chloe and grand nephew Max, nephew Scott, niece Lori (Jim) and grand niece Bailey. Esther was well known to many and will be sadly missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins and the many friends she has made along her 67 year journey. A Memorial Service will be held west of Olds on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Westerdale Hall with internment to follow for both her and George Heath. A local service will be held at a later date for the many friends and extended family in the Grande Prairie-Sexsmith area. In lieu of flowers, Esther has requested that donations be made to a school or organization of your choice that puts kids first…just like she always did for her children.
