Helen Karen Bertrand (Nee Wirch) Born Oct 5, 1950, Died April 1, 2014
On Tuesday April 1st, Helen Karen Bertrand of Grande Prairie passed away after a 21 month battle with cancer. She was born on Oct 5th, 1950 in Wetaskawin, Alberta and grew up around the Carstairs area. She later moved to Camrose, Alberta to attend Alberta Bible Institute where she met her husband David Bertrand from the London Ontario area. They were married on Oct 5, 1971 and went on to have 4 daughters. They spent many years living between Ontario and Alberta before settling in the Grande Prairie region in 1987.
Helen enjoyed playing piano, singing, knitting and sewing, and was also known for her sense of humour. She loved working with children and some of her fondest memories were of her work with Glory Garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active participant in the Grande Prairie Church of Christ. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her many friends and family.
Helen is survived by her husband David Bertrand; daughters Janeya Tunke (husband Les), Sheralyn Janson (husband Rinus), Esther Thompson (husband Chris) and Maria Petersen (husband Patrick). Grandchildren- Alex, Ange, and Camille Kindrachuk, Jordyn and David Tunke , Luke and Daniel Janson, Nicholas, Desmond, and Casey Thompson, and Riley Petersen. Siblings- Reuben Wirch, Linda Spicer, Lilian Friesen and Benjamin Wirch.
Helen is predeceased by her parents Mary and Otto Wirch, and siblings Annie Wirch, Annie-Rose Wirch, Esther Sommert and Daniel Wirch.
Memorial Service will be held at the Grande Prairie Church of Christ on Saturday April 5th, 2014 at 1pm.
