Obituary of Valerie Anne Brown

Valerie (Val) Anne Brown February 25, 1959 – March 17, 2013 With her family by her side, Val peacefully passed away on Sunday March 17, 2013 at the age of 54. Val is survived by her husband Dale, two children Kailon and Dalene, two grandchildren Priya and Saige, her mother Anne, her stepfather Charlie, her sister Velda and her nephew T.J. and niece Brooke and has joined those who passed before her including her father Ron. Val will forever be remembered as a generous, loving, courageous woman with an enormous amount of family and friends who will love and remember her forever. Val always had a smile on her face and was willing to lend a hand to anyone that was in need of it. She was quick witted and always had a joke or story to tell you in a teasing kind of way. Val worked for Northern Health for 23 years and was always heard commenting on how much she loved her job and the people she worked with. She was a mentor for her children and many of their friends, guiding their way through life in a non-judgemental, compassionate, loving manner. She loved to curl every winter and gained many close friendships from the hours spent at the rink and the time volunteered on the curling rink board. She spent her summers at the cabin that her and her husband Dale built from the ground up alongside their wonderful friends and family whom would wave a hammer around for a few hours in return of a frosty Coors Light. She also treasured her road trip camping journeys with close friends, Marcie and Rick Hackworth and husband Dale. They would often return with her embellishing the story of their trip in a comical way. Scrapbooking was a way that she kept her life, particularly as a grandmother, documented in the same colorful way that she lived. After her long fight with cancer over the past year, she had made a request that her passing be mourned for a short time, but that her life then be celebrated for she lived it fully with dedication to making the best of each and every day. Therefore we will be honoring Val in a Celebration of Life service on March 30, 2013 at the Best Western Hotel Banquet room in Dawson Creek B.C. at 7:00pm with a dance to follow as a way of celebration. Memorial donations can be brought either to the service or to Northern Health and will be used to purchase a stone bench in Val’s honor that will be used at the Northern Health office in Dawson Creek. Cheques are to be made out to Northern Health with a note stating Donation for Val Brown.
