Obituary of Joan Shirley Lacasse

February 24, 1932 - February 20, 2017 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joan Lacasse at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully at Points West Living from her fight with dementia. Joan was born in Leduc AB to Jim & Amilla Lindberg. Her younger elementary years were spent in Leduc. Amilla & Jim moved the family to St. Albert Trail where she purchased the general store and local post office. It was a family run business all the kids helped. Joan attended high school and then ventured on to attending Alberta College to do a secretary course. Joan met her husband Ed Lacasse in St. Albert and they were married on Oct 29, 1952. During their newlywed years, they had many adventures all around Alberta and Saskatchewan as Ed worked in the oil field business. They finally settled down for a while in Thorhild, AB where they purchased the general store, and there started her retail desire. In 1969 the opportunity came to purchase the Stockade Motel and Campsite. Once the motel was sold Joan began her retail work journey at the Hudson’s Bay Company where she worked in the notions department, which was the perfect place for a woman that sewed and knitted. After the close of The Bay she continued her retail work at Holroyd Drugs; where you would always receive a warm smile when you entered the store. During and after her working years she always loved spending time with family and especially her grandchildren. Our Mom was a beautiful woman inside and out and will be deeply missed. Joan will also be remembered for her countless hours of volunteering at the Grande Prairie Hospital, and the MS Society. Joan is survived by her daughter, Corrine (Les) Kerik and their children, Kylie and Lindsey; Her son, Jeff (Tanise) Lacasse and their children, Stephanie and Jason; her sister, Marge McCray; her brother, Bob Lindberg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Ed Lacasse; her sister, Madeline Rasmussen; and her brother, Ralph Lindberg. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Points West Living for the care that Joan received. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
