Obituary of Lillian Gloria Tunke

December 22, 1933 - July 24, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lillian Tunke (nee, Scantland) on Monday, July 24, 2017.

Lillian was born on December 22, 1933. She was the fourth daughter of Edward and Viola Scantland. She spent her early years growing up in Watson, Manitoba and Kelowna, B.C. She grew up in a loving family and spent countless hours swimming, enjoying the outdoors, and becoming an accomplished pianist. She obtained a teaching certificate, and it was upon arriving in Dixonville, Alberta that she met and soon married her husband of 58 years, Ervin Tunke. They settled to start a life of farming and to raise their family in the Chinook Valley area. They were blessed with three sons, Alan, Darryl, and Glen. Darryl passed away in infancy. They left the farm to live four years in the Okanogan before moving to Grande Prairie, to settle for retirement and to be close to family. She enjoyed playing the piano, picking berries, visiting with family and friends, and really anyone that would listen. She was kind, encouraging, loved to give gifts, and had a good sense of humor.

She will be missed by her husband Ervin; her sons, Alan (Jennifer) and Glen (Debbie); her grandchildren, Shannon (Clayton) Mandrusiak, Coreen (Kevin) Bates, Keith (Kristin) Tunke, Stephanie (Jeff) Wall, Jeff Tunke, and Rebecca Tunke; 9 great-grandchildren with another due to arrive in January; her sisters, Cecile Lund, Clare (Don) Cruickshank; and brother, James (Doreen) Scantland.

She was predeceased by her infant son Darryl; and her sister, Jan Boyd.

A funeral service for Lillian will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 102 St).
