Obituary of Laurel Loberg
It is with profound sadness we share the passing of Laurel Alton Loberg, known as “Larry” to all who so loved him. Larry left us one week after an animated celebration of his 77th birthday, to join his brother, Marvin, who had gone on ahead not 5 months earlier.
He was also predeceased by their parents, Lars and Agnes Loberg. Larry is survived by his eldest brother, Arnold (Helen) Loberg, sisters, Marilyn (Bob) Sharples, Beverley (Ray) Niebergall and Marvin’s wife, Patti Loberg, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry also leaves his constant companion, Kya, the dog who adopted Larry’s gentle nature.
A friend to all, Larry did not limit his life by his deafness. He recognized his artistic talent early and spent a lifetime cartooning and painting for so many in the community. His skills were rapid, his pictures humorous, and signage particular. Many can be found in the most obscure places in Grande Prairie and surrounds. He was a willing helper and keen to oblige. It satisfied his need to communicate. Larry’s greatest love, however, was aircraft and the mystery of the air. He was self-taught and developed his skills to build several aircraft from the original home built gyrocopter to complicated flying machines, reclining bicycles; any plan was a challenge to be interpreted. All this with a friendly wave. But few understood the loneliness he felt after losing the mother he’d cared for during her latter years. He grew tired and in spite of the exemplary attention from his devoted niece and 2 dear family friends, Larry chose to leave us on January 6th, 2015. We will miss his patience, his kindness, his twinkle, Rest in Peace, Larry. A Celebration to honor Larry will be held in the Spring.
