Obituary of Norman David Nerdahl
Norman passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17th, 2017 in his 78th year at the Points West Hospice in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Norman was the son of Norwegian homesteaders in Hines Creek where he worked on the farm, in the saw mill, drove a cab, and was an Auto Body Mechanic before discovering his real passion as a fire fighter. He was a proud member of the City of Grande Prairie Fire Department and served for over 28 years. He was active in the community, serving as a Past President of the GP Legion Branch 54 and a member of the Elks. He also enjoyed camping, golfing and curling when he found the time.
Loving father of Leslie David (Marta), Sherri Lynn (Gordon McNaughton) and Jason Lee. Grandfather to Aaron Nerdahl, and Andrew and Steven McNaughton. He is survived by his brother Roy Nerdahl of Red Deer and sister Alice Nelson of Edmonton. Son of the late Henry Oliver Nerdahl and Agnes (nee Hansen) and step father Dave A. Shaw of Hines Creek. He will be kindly remembered by his many friends, colleagues, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his personal physician Dr. Mequanent and the doctors, nurses and care givers at the Grande Prairie Queen Elizabeth II Hospital and the Points West Hospice.
A memorial service will take place on October 28th, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Grande Prairie Legion Branch 54 (9912-101 Ave. Grande Prairie, AB). The service will be lead by Rick Saban, City of Grande Prairie Fire Department Chaplain. A private family interment will be held on October 29th, 2017 at the Hinterland Cemetery in Hines Creek, AB.
