Obituary of Ervin Hebert Tunke
December 13, 1934 – October 5, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ervin Tunke on Thursday, October 5, 2017.
Ervin was born in Dixonville, Alberta on December 13, 1934. He grew up on the family farm near Dixonville and worked hard alongside his family, hauling wood, clearing land, hunting, and farming. He grew up to be strong and athletic and enjoyed playing baseball for the Dixonville Dynamos. After finishing school he went to work at the family gas and service station where he honed his skills in mechanics and welding. As a young man he also worked on construction and seismic crews in Saskatchewan and southern Alberta before returning to Dixonville.
In 1958 a pretty young school teacher came to town and they married on June 27, 1959. They settled to a life of farming in Chinook Valley. They were blessed with three sons: Alan, Darryl and Glen. Darryl passed away in infancy. After many years of farming they retired for a few years in the Okanagan before returning to the Peace Country to settle permanently in Grande Prairie to be near family and make so many memories of every special occasion. Ervin made many friends and enjoyed golfing, coffee at A&W, pool at the Golden Age Center and lunches at 55+. Their door was always open for coffee and a visit. Ervin’s faith was important to him and we are assured he is at rest in Heaven with his Lord with the promise of eternal life.
He will be missed by his sons; Alan (Jennifer) and Glen (Debbie), his grandchildren: Shannon (Clayton) Mandrusiak, Coreen (Kevin) Bates, Keith (Kristin) Tunke, Stephanie (Jeff) Wall, Jeff Tunke and Rebecca Tunke and 9 great grandchildren with another due in January, and his brother Fred Tunke.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian, infant son Darryl, 2 sisters; Helen and Irene and one brother, Gordon.
A Funeral Service for Ervin will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at 2pm at Mission Heights Church of Christ, 8321 Mission Heights Drive, Grande Prairie.
