Obituary of Mihaly Magyar
February 7, 1934 – October 17, 2017
It is with heavy hearts we announce that our father and grandfather Mihaly Magyar has passed away peacefully on October 17, 2017 at Mackenzie Place, Grande Prairie.
As a Hungarian citizen, Mihaly immigrated to Sexsmith, Alberta in March of 1957, as a railway worker. In 1972 he married Stella Tardif and they settled in Grande Prairie and raised two sons Michael and John.
For 50 years Mihaly ran his own business, Grande Prairie Upholstery and managed his commercial property. He enjoyed farming his land in Bezanson with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing soccer and for several years took pride in coaching young athletes in the Grande Prairie Little League Soccer program.
Mihaly is survived by his wife, Stella; his sons Michael (Natasha Tilson) and John (Angela Sims), his six grandchildren; Tristan, Terenne, Rachel, Declan, Aubrey and Hadley. He leaves behind many friends and extended family.
Mihaly was predeceased by two brothers, one sister and both parents in Hungary.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the long term staff at the Grande Prairie Queen Elizabeth Hospital and his nurses at Mackenzie Place who provided him care in his final days.
A Memorial service will take place on Tuesday, October 24th at 10 am at Mission Heights Church of Christ, 8321 Mission Heights Drive, Grande Prairie.
A private graveside interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in honor of Mihaly.
