Obituary of Rodney (Rod) Allen Peters

May 11, 1951 – October 24, 2017
Rodney (Rod) Allen Peters passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 24, 2017, at the QEII Hospital with his family by his side. Even though this has left a hole in our hearts, he had expressed his desire several times to go home to Jesus and to see his Mom and Dad, Hazel and Harold.
Rod was born in Manning, Alberta, and spent 10 years living in Trinidad where his parents were missionaries. They moved back to Canada in 1962. Rod went to college in Fairview and in Olds, where he studied horticulture.
He and Donna married in 1978 and they started their life together in Grande Prairie. They had two daughters, Sandra and Lisa. Rod was a car salesman for many years until he finally followed his passion and started his own tree pruning and lawn care business. He would continue to run his own business for the rest of his life, expanding it to snow removal and repairing caster wheels.
Rod was always very creative. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to music, oil painting, wood carving, and restoring antiques, including military vehicles and tractors which he would ride in parades. Rod also loved animals and helping people. He spent a lot of time at the Salvation Army, trying to help people find work and donating food to them.
Rod lived with brain cancer for about the last six years of his life. His struggles varied – some were very obvious and others were more private. Regardless of one’s relationship or encounter with him, he was unforgettable.
Without intending to, Rod taught a life lesson to almost everyone who crossed his path. In his last days, he was at peace and shared the love of the Lord.
May his time on earth be a reminder to us all to spread patience, compassion and acceptance to everyone who crosses our path.

Rod is survived by his wife, Donna (Robinson) Peters, his daughters Sandra Peters (Larry Schmidt), Lisa Laferriere (Marc Laferriere) and granddaughter Adriana Laferriere as well as his sisters and brothers; Beverly Hildebrandt (Vic Hildebrandt), Richard Peters (Wendy Peters), Paul Peters,(Jeannie Peters) and Valerie Soles (Jamie Soles) and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A Memorial Service for Rod will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 11 a.m. at the Westpointe Community Church at 11305 Pinnacle Blvd in Grande Prairie.
Donations in Rod’s memory can be made to The Salvation Army, 9615 102 Street, Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V 2T8 or The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation 10409 98 Street, Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V 2E8 and write in memo line on the cheque:  “For the Cancer Clinic”
