Obituary of Stanley Henry Chop

September 10, 1939 – October 24, 2017

Stanley Henry Chop was the oldest child and only son born to Michael and Hedwig Chop on September 10, 1939 in his paternal grandparents’ farm home north of Dixonville. After finishing his school years at Dixonville School, he worked at various jobs, including camp attendant for oil rigs and several years with Department of Highways in Peace River. He was also helping his father with farming and eventually took over the farm. Stanley loved country living so when he decided to move from Dixonville, he settled on an acreage north of Fairview and worked at Fairview College in town.

He was a “people person” and loved to talk and visit and was always willing to help. He made many friends. In his retirement years some of his favourite pastimes were working on vehicles with his mechanic buddy, Bruce Davidson, volunteering at North Peace Bracket Racing Association in Beaverlodge, reading, and doing puzzle books. Although he faced many hardships and challenges throughout his life, he persevered and never gave up, remaining active to the very end.

On October 24, 2017 he died suddenly in a two vehicle collision.  He was 78.

He is survived by three sisters: Irene Chop and Chris Chop, both of Grande Prairie, and Annie Yuhar and husband John of Strathmore, Alberta; niece Mary Kruse, husband Randy and their sons Bradley, Patrick and Benjamin of Strathmore, Alberta; two nephews of Whitecourt, Alberta: Michael Yuhar, wife Kelli and their sons Mitch, Cole and Dylan; and Victor Yuhar, wife Sheila and their children Cutler, Joseph and Lily; niece goddaughter Teresa Christopher, husband Richard and their daughter Zoe of Calgary, Alberta.

He was predeceased by his father Michael (1977), mother Hedwig (2008) and nephew David Yuhar (1989).

After the funeral service November 2, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Fairview, he will be laid to rest near his parents in Dixonville Central Grove Cemetery.
