Obituary of Pauline Shewchuk
July 12, 1926 – December 31, 2017
Pauline Shewchuk (nee Fedorak) passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017. Pauline was born on July 12, 1926 in Vegreville. Her parents, John and Maria Fedorak, farmed in the Willingdon area. Pauline attended the Willingdon School and after graduating, worked at the bank. In June 1946, she married Steve W. Shewchuk at the Borowich Church. They were blessed with one child, Terry Ryan. Pauline was a devoted mother and wife. After Terry graduated from high school, the family moved to Edmonton where Terry and Steve went to the University of Alberta. Pauline continued to work at the bank in several capacities- loans officer, accountant and more. She had a head for numbers and organization. She loved to curl and had several trophies to remember her years of curling in Willingdon. Pauline was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing would make her happier than spending time with her family. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader and would marvel at the accomplishments of her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many physical ailments throughout her life and was at times very fragile. Despite this physical frailty, Pauline had an incomparable strength of character that carried her through it all. Of late, she often said she couldn’t believe how she had ever gotten to be so old and see so much. Her world had changed incredibly over the years but somehow she kept on going. She was our Wonder Woman and each day with her a blessing. She will be missed.
Pauline is survived by her daughter-in-law Gail; granddaughter Terra, her husband Gavin (Meyers) and great-granddaughter Zooey; grandson Evan and great-grandchildren Aleksandr and Una. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Steve and son Terry. A graveside Memorial will be held in May.
