Doreen Mary Finlayson, longtime resident of Eaglesham, Alberta passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 65. Doreen was born on September 12, 1947 in Belloy, Alberta to Elmer and Rose (Toots) Bodette. She was the youngest of 7 children and did her schooling in Wanham. She married her husband of 44 years, Duncan, in August of 1968 and moved to Eaglesham in 1969 where she and Duncan raised their daughter Melanie and spent many dedicated hours working within the various organizations within the community. Doreen was a proud member of the Eaglesham Royal Purple Lodge for 40 years and she will be greatly missed by her lodge sisters. Doreen was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was well respected for her commitment to her small community, her generosity, and love of family. Doreen will be forever missed and loved by her husband Duncan, her daughter Melanie and son-in-law Peter, granddaughter Heaven, and numerous other family members and close friends. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, brothers Art and Ralph Bodette, sisters Sylvia Young and Dorothy Labrecque, neice Lynn Blue, and nephew Kelly Labrecque. A celebration of Doreen’s life will take place at the Eaglesham Centennial Hall at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2013. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Grande Prairie Cancer Clinic or Central Peace Palliative Care, Spirit River.
