Obituary of David W Miller
A life time resident of Grande Prairie and area, David Walter Miller died on Tuesday June 17, 2014 in Grande Prairie at the age of 63 years. Dave was born in Beaverlodge January 15, 1951, the 7th child of Jack and Doris Miller. They lived at Huallen, followed by a move to his grand-parents farm near Wembley, next they moved to Grande Prairie.
Dave was a popular fellow in school, and had a close knit group of friends. His school mate Garry Smith has maintained a friendship with Dave throughout the years. Dave loved the great outdoors, camping, fishing, berry picking, gardening and panning for gold at his Uncle Bens’ claim near Quesnell. In his younger years he spent a lot of time at the ski hill and was part of the ski patrol. Dave was a particularly meticulous carpenter having built two homes that he lived in with his wife and sons. In addition to these homes, he and his close friend Larry Crerar built a house for Dave’s mother.
Dave worked for many years in Facility Maintenance for the City of Grande Prairie where his many co-workers considered him a helpful, friendly, quiet kind of guy. For the past year Dave has lived at The Gardens in Grande Prairie where he became familiar to the many residents there. He was known for his good nature as well as his ability to make fun of himself by saying when leaving the dining room “now I wonder if I will be able to find my room this time.” He loved to reminisce about his childhood days on the farm and commented often how hard his mom must have worked what with a wood burning stove, a big garden and lots of family to feed.
Dave was predeceased by his parents as well as his brother Doug and sister Joan.
Dave is survived by his birth-daughter Lori Cutler, sons Justin (Nadia), Pat (Nikkii), Dan, grandchildren Aden and Veda; former wife Betty (nee Cochrane); siblings Connie Dalke, Marlene Richards (Stan), Ken Miller (Jennie); Dorothy Talbot (Mel); and special friend Sheila Leif, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at the Elks Hall 10806 – 106 St. Grande Prairie on Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. with lunch and fellowship, followed by an informal service.
