June 26, 1935 – February 20, 2018
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Steve Mazurkewich on February 20, 2018 at his home near Eaglesham. Steve was born June 26, 1935 on the family farm in Codesa. He attended school first in Belloy and then later in Codesa. Like many of his generation, he left school early to help support his family. Steve worked at various jobs in the oil patch before starting a tank truck business which he operated for nearly forty years. In 1957 he took a homestead in the Codesa area and continued to farm until his retirement. In 1959 he married Donna McCammon and together they raised four children.
Steve was an avid Calgary sports fan who enjoyed cheering against any team from Edmonton. He seldom missed a Blue Jay game and in later life developed an affinity for watching curling. One of his greatest joys came from the fastball team he sponsored for many years, Steve’s Oil Kings. The team would go on to win many tournaments and provincial titles in 1986 and again in 1987 which lead to a trip to the nationals. Steve also enjoyed playing cards, everything from bridge and cribbage to poker.
Steve is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Audrey (Rob) Engler; sons John, Don and Dave. He is also survived by granddaughter Sara Engler and grandson Justin Robson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents John and Dora Mazurkewich; brothers Walter, Peter, Tony and granddaughter Angela Engler.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
